Sleep Study System (S.S.S.)
A “Turn Key” process designed for Trucking Companies and Drivers
Why is CMS getting involved
in Sleep Apnea?
During the past several months we met with more than 30 companies for which we provide TPA and MRO services to discuss the recent change in the Federal drug screening regulations and the issue of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Their concern was the growing number of physical exams being “held” or disqualified pending Sleep Studies. Those conversations reduced down to four OSA screening issues:
- Cost Effective
- Turn Key Process (Sleep Study, Evaluation Report, a Prescription to a medical supply company that will provide a quality CPAP or APAP)
- Timely
- Could the transportation company own the sleep study unit (reduce unit shipping time to and from the driver.)
We also met with Joseph Sentef, MD. Dr. Sentef is Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians; is Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine and has been a part of the FMCSA developmentment of the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners Program. Dr. Sentef brings valuable insight into the evaluating process and treatment of sleep disorder. According to Dr. Sentef, the full process should require:
- Type III Sleep Study Unit
- Data interpreted by a Sleep Specialist
- Prescription for CPAP/APAP
- Quality CPAP/APAP
- 90 Day Compliance Certificate
